Starr Rochelle
MSW Intern
(Rutgers University)
Starr began her career by receiving two Bachelor of Arts degrees from CUNY Hunter College, one in Film and the other in English with a concentration in Creative writing. Upon graduation, a family emergency postponed Starr’s ability to move away to pursue a career in film and writing. This led her to follow an alternative passion instead in the field of health and wellness. There, she has spent almost a decade working as a personal trainer and yoga instructor. During her time in the physical wellness space she also became a certified reiki healer and more recently an End of Life Doula. She is currently in the process of completing MSW via Rutgers University.
Her approach to therapy is one that involves active listening and asking thoughtful questions. Starr believes that a lot of healing can be accomplished when people have room to share their stories. In our fast paced world of sound bites, reels, and tweets, she finds it important to hold space for authentic listening and processing. Starr believes that every story a person has to share can be important (especially those stories that we re-share over and over) and for lasting progress to be made sometimes we need to go backward before we can go forward.
Starr enjoys working with youth and adults ages 12+ who are struggling with grief/loss, anxiety, depression, life changes, stress, and trauma. Starr enjoys incorporating motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, and TST into her work. Starr has a lot of experience in coaching people through grief in its many different forms. She also has primarily coached those in the BIPOC community who identify as women.
Starr is originally from New York but has recently moved to California. She lives with her boyfriend and small cat. In her limited free time, she takes Korean lessons and Spanish lessons with hopes of being able to reach more people. She aspires to also add in taking ASL lessons. Currently, she loves to watch anime but when she was getting her BA in Film her speciality of study was turn of the 20th Century German Horror. She also loves listening to audiobooks and is open to a range of suggestions.
