Michaela Loven
Counseling Intern
(McDaniel College)
Michaela received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. Michaela is currently attending the Clinical Mental Health Counseling asynchronous program at McDaniel College. Before going back to school and as a crisis specialist with Colorado Crisis Service.
Michaela works with youth, adolescents, groups, and families ages 12+. Michaela lost her mother when she was six years old. Experiencing loss at a young age herself, Michaela is aware that there is no one way to heal. This has made Michaela aware of the various hurdles associated with loss, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress. Michaela enjoys working with families and individuals in a collaborative sense to enhance the therapeutic relationship. It is important to Michaela for sessions to be viewed as a team effort, as well as guiding individuals in building their ideal sense of self to promote autonomy in and outside of sessions.
Her approach to therapy is combining CBT, DBT, MI, client-centered therapy, TST, and feminist theory. Michaela believes in meeting people where they are at and is welcoming of individuals and families from all walks of life. She attempts to facilitate a safe environment where people can explore their past hurts, their future goals, and how their life is presently being impacted.
Michaela is originally from Maryland but has lived in many different states. Michaela currently lives in Aurora, Colorado, with her husband and two dogs. Outside of sessions, you can find Michaela at a yoga class, on a walk with her dogs listening to a podcast, at a live comedy show, or spending time in nature. Michaela and her family spend a lot of time camping/backpacking during the summer and fall months in Colorado.
